F1 Singapore
The F1 Night Race in Singapore is certainly the most exciting Grand Prix and gets a lot of attention by the international media. Although the night race is fully illuminated by all kinds of light, Astera had managed to get a unique spot on the rooftop of the pit stop and stand out from other lighting installations during the race.
Local lighting designer Pascal Petitjean built a unique installation out of 145 Astera Skylamps which form the letters SINGAPORE when viewed from the Singapore Flyer, the nearby buildings and the helicopters covering the race. The 160m long installation could be controlleed conveniently from an ARC2 remote control and did not require any DMX cables.
Snog Chelsea
Astera has supplied lightsources for yet another of the award-winning SNOG frozen yoghurt stores that are emerging in Brittain, South America and the Middle East. For the SNOG restaurant in London's upmarket Chelsea quarter, a tranquil ambience with slowly moving lights in pastel colors was created by lighting designer Dominik Harris and his Cinimod studio. It invites to spend time in the venue, eating frozen yoghurt and having a chat with friends and random customers.
For the installation, Astera's flex pixel ribbon was chosen, which can be attached easily behind the seamless ceiling panels and which allows to control 10 individual pixel per meter. Together with a lighting control software, this leads to stunning lighting effects and color-transitions that can be changed to match the current mood of the restaurant.

DJ Light
DJ Light is a public lighting installation showcased in Lima, Peru. The interactive installation consists of 85 inflatable globes of various sizes that are lit up by strips of Astera's Flex Ribbon to illuminate a large public space with colourful light.
Apart from Astera's lamps, the main highlight is the control system for the DJ Light globes. By entering the stage, any visitor can become a light artist and take control of the whole installation which can be learned on the spot. A sophisticated thermal-tracking camera records hand and arm gestures and transfers them into colorful movements of light.

The Whirpool
The Whirpool is a interactive lighting installation by Martin Klaasen, Shane Richardson and Pascal Petitjean. It was part of the Marina Bay Lighting Festival in Singapore which featured 20 dynamic pieces of light art that are centered around Singapore's newly developed bay and started at sundown from October 15 to November 7, 2010.
The unique construction featured 38 of Astera's Wireless Skylamps that were arranged in a circle that is floating on water. The displayed colors of the light objects change their colors according to the stream of visitors that pass by a nearby stage for watching the installation. What makes the project truly unique is that the stage features cameras that detect the amount and movement of males in females in the crowd and displays the result in moving blue and pink colors.

Salvatore Ferragamo Launch Party
Salvatore Ferragamo's new "Attimo" fragrance was introduced at the excludive The Standard Hotel in New York. The event was a full success for the Luxury brand. Visited by many A-level stars, press-photographers and writers, the launch party had the intended impact and brand exposure.
The lighting concept was developed by New York's L&M lighting design agency. The party's elegant atmosphere was set to a deep red which was in stong contrast to the blue of the setting sun. Astera's Wireless Wallwasher fixtures played a major role in the concept. Being able to be attached to window's thin frame without ugly cables, these were the only possible wallwashers for such an installation.

Formula 1 party from Mclaren Mercedes
Astera's wireless LED fixtures played an important role at a recent Formula 1 party from McLaren-Mercedes. The outdoor event was held to invite important McLaren associates, VIPs and drivers. Apart from the current McLaren-Mercedes car, Astera’s products were the main decoration at the exclusive event.
Astera’s waterproof LED objects were used together with illuminated cocktail tables covered with easy-stretch covers to create an exciting atmosphere for the audience. The LED event fixtures were programmed to display cool blue and white colors to reflect a tranquil mood after a long racing day. In addition, Astera provided cable-free LED decoration that helped to keep the event tidy and uncluttered.

Itsu Butterflies
A unique interior design installation was installed in a restaurant belonging to the Japanese Itsu chain in England. The LED fitting is inspired by a colorful butterfly flying along at the center of the ceiling. The installation manages to balance between dynamic and tranquility and provides an eye catcher to attract customers and a pleasant atmosphere while eating inside the venue.
While the first impression of the LED set-up might be confusing as the butterflies seem to be shining from its inside with no cables or light source visible, a careful inspection reveals that only half butterflies are hanging from the wall and the other half is a reflection from a cleverly placed mirror. The acrylic butterfly wings are illuminated from a set of LED strips provided by Astera.
It is installations like this that blur the boundaries between design and lighting. Cinimod Studio, the designing and executing agency, has been credited with various citations in design and architectural magazines. For Astera on the other hand this project has caused the company to start considering additional setups with acrylic light-medium for special projects and standard products.

Chemnitz Spielbank
Astera recently had the honor to modify their products for the illumination of the Chemnitz Spielbank, a Casino with a unique interior inspired by the sunken city of Atlantis. To match the unique indoor decoration, several of Astera’s products were combined to create a unique atmosphere at night.
A combination of outdoor Wallwasher, LED stripes and spot lamps were used to illuminate the modern front of the Casino. Driven by a complex light control system the LED lamps can adjust colors of the whole facade and can be used to highlight special events or slowly fade along during the hours of the night.

Snog Chandelier
When strolling through London’s trendy Soho district you might notice Astera’s latest interior design illumination in a yoghurt shop of the successful Snog Frozen Yoghurt brand. Designed by UK’s creative Cinimod Studio, the installation features a cluster of 700 single hanging LED balls.
When developing the lightballs and connecting them to an Astera controller, the company worked closely with Cinimod to create a unique lighting solution. Since each LED ball can be controlled individually, complex illumination can be achieved which fit the mood of the hour, provides an ambient lighting for the shop and catches the attention of people passing by.
The stunning installation soon came into the spotlight of the architectural scene and was featured by design magazines such as ‘design week’. Additional installations for Snog are currently under construction which will feature different applications of Astera’s products.

Pixel Cloud for Jason Brughes Studio
This LED lighting sculpture is hung from the ceiling of a 10-storey atrium of Allen 7 Overy's office in London like an oversized chandelier. The three-dimensional matrix contains 624 globes that can be individually addressed to form complex shapes and stunning lighting effects.
Each of the 624 globes is made out of 24 LEDs fitted inside a round polycarbonate housing of 120mm diameter. The control-mechanism was developed exclusively for Jason Brughes Studio and allows the playback of colorful three-dimensional animations. In combonation with a camera that was installed of the building's roof the pixel cloud can also display images of passing clouds forming an interactive-3D installation.
